The series follows Doraemon, a robot cat from the 22nd century, who is sent back to the past by Nobita Nobi's descendants in the hopes that he can help Nobita, currently a lazy ten-year-old boy, enjoy a better future. Wasabi Mizuta ( One Piece and Pokemon: Best Wishes) voices the titular character. The third and current adaptation premiered in 2005 and is joint produced by Shin-Ei Animation and Asatsu-DK. Six years later, a second adaptation of Doraemon premiered, this time produced by Shin-Ei Animation, and ran for eight seasons. The first one premiered in April 1973 and was produced by Nippon TeleMovie Productions, but the series has become somewhat of a rarity as it aired for only 26 episodes and none of these exist online.
The series shot up in popularity and received three anime adaptations. Fujio, began its serialization in Shogakukan in December 1969 with a staggering 1,345 chapters from 1970 to 1996.
