Harmony is possible by living life in accordance with what is natural. Daoists believe that even when we try to regulate human action with moral systems and norms, we still fail to realize a flourishing society and good life. It locates the cause of most suffering and conflict in desires and greed. To do so, it seeks to understand the source of evil and suffering. Daoism aims to foster harmony in both society and the individual. Like Mohism and Confucianism, Daoism is a response to the social unrest and suffering characteristic of that period.
